A Brief Look at Art therapy in Trauma Work & EMDR:

Preparation, Reprocessing, and Synthesis

Clients who come to therapy for trauma work tend to live their days outside of their window of tolerance.  This negatively impacts the ability to regulate internally and with-in interpersonal relationships, further enforcing maladaptive cognitions about the self typically sourced in their trauma. This program will enrich the clinician’s definition of trauma, teach the window of tolerance, and model how art therapy assists clients in regulating their nervous system and building self-compassion in preparation for trauma work.  In addition, art for synthesis and integration of growth post trauma reprocessing will become better understood.

·         Attendees do not need to be trained in EMDR to benefit their practice.

·         Group discussions will assist in defining trauma, and understanding the bottom up/sensorimotor approaches of art therapy in conjunction with EMDR.

·         Attendees will learn and practice a mindfulness/relaxation technique and create art to ascertain a new intervention to assist in trauma work.
